Hilary W. Williams, O.D.
Dr. Hilary W. Williams completed her undergraduate degree Magna Cum Laude from Wheaton College in 1981. She then worked in the Metabolism Division at Childrenʼs Hospital as a research associate in molecular biology 1981-1983, during which time she co-authored three articles featured in PNAS, Journal of Biochemistry and The American Heart Association’s 56th Scientific Sessions. She continued to work in molecular biology research at Biogen, Inc. in Cambridge, MA from 1983 until 1984 when she enrolled in Optometry school at The New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA.
Dr. Williams received her doctorate in Optometry in 1989. She was a Nikon Scholar, a Beta Sigma Kappa member of the International Optometric Fraternity and graduated third in her class. She continued to have an active role in molecular biology research throughout her doctorate degree working as a research associate for Applied Biotechnolgy in Cambridge, MA 1984-1989.
Dr. Williams went on to complete a post-doctoral residency in hospital based Optometry at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA. She worked providing primary and urgent eye care in a multidisciplinary hospital setting which further enriched her extensive clinical internship experiences at the Joslin Diabetes Center, South Boston Community Health Center and Brighton Marine Public Health Center. Dr. Williams received clinical honors throughout all her rotations and published: The Eye in Malignant Hypertension for the Journal of Clinical Eye and Vision Care at the completion of her residency.
Dr. Williams has worked as a primary care optometrist since 1990 combining her strong clinical and analytical skills with a love of Optometry and her patients. She is a licensed Optometrist in the state of Massachusetts and a member of the American Optometric Association and the Massachusetts Society of Optometry since 1985. She is also a member of the Lions Club International and a strong supporter of the Jimmy Fund, as well as many local civic and charity organizations. Dr. Williams is a mother of two and resides in Scituate with her husband.
Michael V. Sinopoli, O.D.
Dr. Michael Sinopoli completed his undergraduate degree at the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2017 with a BS degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. He then attended The Ohio State University College of Optometry, graduating in 2021 with a Doctorate in Optometry. During his time in optometry school, Dr. Sinopoli became a member of the Epsilon Psi Epsilon professional optometric fraternity as well as the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Sinopoli interned at Erdey Searcy Eye Group in Columbus, OH as well as the Veterans Administration Eye Center in Cincinnati. He collaborated with optometrists and ophthalmologists and developed a thorough, comprehensive knowledge base in all areas of optometry.
Dr. Sinopoli was born and raised in the South Shore, graduating from Weymouth High School in 2013, and currently resides in South Boston. During his free time Dr. Sinopoli enjoys spending time with his close friends and family and staying physically active. He is an avid sports fan and supports all the major Boston teams, as well as The Ohio State Buckeyes and UMass Minutemen.
Michelle Varnum, CPO
Office Manager
Michelle began her career in healthcare in 1991, joining the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgical Department at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital after completing the Medical Assistant program at NEC Bryman College. In 1994, she had accepted the opportunity to become the Lead Clinical Coordinator for a new Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgical practice at Newton Wellesley Hospital, while attending Mass Bay Community College for Nursing.
In 1998, after the birth of her first child, she moved to Scituate to raise her family. Michelle returned to the medical field in 1999 joining the staff of Nantasket Eye Care, and became the Office Manager for the practice in 2004. Her strong organizational and professional skills have helped develop Nantasket Eye Care into a well run practice with an astute attention to patient needs.
Along with Michelle’s contributions to the success of Nantasket Eye Care, she has completed the Certified Paraoptometric program and examination meeting the technical requirements necessary to earn the designation of Certified Paraoptometric. Michelle has been with Nantasket Eye Care for over 25 years assisting Dr. Williams in both examinations and procedures. She meticulously oversees every patients’ experience at Nantasket Eye Care to ensure all their needs have been thoroughly addressed.
Margaret Whelan, CPO
Paraoptometric Technician
Margaret, a resident of Hull has been part of the Nantasket Eye Care team since 2010. She has also completed the Certified Paraoptometric program and examination meeting the technical requirements necessary to earn the designation of Certified Paraoptometric. Like Michelle, Margaret’s professional training adds to the quality and depth of services available to patients. Patients lovingly refer to Margaret as a “miracle worker” when she repairs their broken glasses or helps them select the “perfect” frame!
Margaret, mother of four and a graduate of Hull High School, received her Associate’s Degree in Science from Massasoit Community College. Margaret has a strong connection to her community and is committed to providing personalized quality eye care and services.
